Reign of Solomon
Commentary
In 2 Chronicles 7, God appears to Solomon in a dream and tells him that if he will humble himself and pray, God will forgive the sins of the people of Israel. Solomon does as God commands and God appears to him again, this time in a fire. God tells Solomon that if he will continue to obey God's commands, then God will bless the people of Israel and make them a great nation. The chapter then goes on to describe the dedication of the temple that Solomon had built. Solomon offers a prayer of dedication to God, asking for God's blessing on the temple and the people of Israel. God responds to Solomon's prayer by sending fire from heaven to consume the offerings that Solomon had made. This is a sign of God's approval of Solomon's prayer and of the temple. The chapter ends with God's promise to Solomon that if the people of Israel will obey God's commands, then God will bless them and make them a great nation. This is a reminder to us today that if we obey God's commands, then God will bless us and make us a great nation. We must remember to humble ourselves and pray, and to obey God's commands, if we want to receive God's blessings.
